Denon Adds Amazon Prime Music to Heos

Denon has announced that its Heos wireless multiroom Sound system now supports Amazon Prime Music, bringing the total number of supported services to 10.

Prime Music, which offers Amazon Prime members ad-free access to “over a million songs, more than a thousand ad-free playlists, and hundreds of personalized stations,” is accessible through the Heos app, which is available for iOS, Android, and Fire devices. Amazon Prime is an annual membership program for $99 a year that offers unlimited free two-day shipping on more than 20 million items across all categories on amazon.com.

In his review early this year, Darryl Wilkinson wrote: “HEOS has a long way to go in terms of adding streaming services, and only time will tell if HEOS can match Sonos when it comes to amazing customer service.” Heos currently provides access to 10 streaming services—including the big ones Pandora, Spotify, and Tidal. Sonos currently supports 48 services.

The 10 services HEOS supports are most of the major ones. How many people care if "Daytrotter" or "gaana.com" is supported? Sonos has a lot of niche services...but the big ones are always going to be Pandora, Spotify, Rhapsody, Amazon, and Google Play. HEOS really needs to add Google Play...but that's about the only major "dealbreaker" service missing at the moment.

Most of the services offered by Sonos are not interested at all. However, Sonos remains superior with their software. Heos also needs Google Cast support, and universal search. The latter almost being a deal breaker for me.

Universal search is a MUST. I hope they get that sooner rather than later. I am also VERY disappointed that Google Cast support, which was announced in JANUARY, hasn't been implemented yet. They need to get that out yesterday...along with Google Play Music support.
