I am sure, from Samsung's previous products, that the UHD player will probably be great, but I'll be damned if I am going to shell out even $40 for the right to play some of the WORST movies ever made. How stupid are these studios? All the great movies that would look spectacular in UHD, and we get crap like "Fantastic 4" and "Exodus"? They should be putting out the greatest movies to sell this product, not sub-standard dreck.
And VERY off-topic, but why was there never a 2D-to-3D conversion of "Citizen Kane"? After watching the Blu-ray the other night, I could not help but think that the deep focus photography would make for some pretty great 3D effects.

Put my UHD BD player on hold. I'll wait until Oppo puts one in their product line and consider it. If the titles listed by Mr. Norton are any indication of what studios will offer count me out. I have a 2012 Panasonic plasma and Pioneer Elite VSX53 receiver, and I'll be damned if I'll buy a new tv and receiver to take advantage of UHD blu ray or Atmos and DTS X. Lastly, my plasma and Oppo 103D player display color, color fidelity, and resolution that I would put side by side with any new offerings. Further, why would I want to buy a 4K set when my optimum viewing distance is 9 to 10 feet in my 11 X 14 foot room? Even looking at my plasma from one foot the pixels are already tiny. Of course I don't view from that distance but I don't think that just because UHD is coming along it will, by default, force me into buying new electronics because my existing electronics are now obsolete. I shelled out big bucks 4 years ago for my current HT system and there is just no way I'm going to spend a penny more for ANY newer technologies at this time.

If the "UHD Alliance" are the same nitwits as the "HDMI Alliance" who brought us the ever-popular HDMI cable end connections.................. need I say more?

Will the UltraHD Premium reqs/label be un players (and other items?) or only on displays?

Of all the BDs mentioned above the one I would pick as reference quality all around (in other words buy) is San Andreas. Life Of Pi second. San Andreas is by far one of the best audio BDs out there. If you want to demo, or otherwise impress friends and family, San Andreas tops my list. It is in Dolby Atmos but my system is not Atmos so TrueHD 7.1 was the option, and oh boy, you just have to hear the first chapter and you will be glued to your seat for the rest of the movie.

I am CONVINCED people read this stuff just to btch. A UHD player for $399 vs an Oppo for what, $1300- $1500? Yeah ok. Is it going to look any better? Nope! Marketing is a mutha.

I'd pay $400 just to see Fifth Element. I don't know why people complain about the back catalog titles available when a new format comes out. I simply look forward to purchasing or renting new titles as they come out in the new format. Fifth Element aside, I'm looking forward to Star Wars TFA when it inevitably comes out!

I've had at least six "cheapo" BD players ranging from $150 - $300 over the years and they've all bit the dust. I bought an Oppo 103D ($600) and it's worth every penny, and then some. Aside from the player itself the customer service is also the best in the business from my perspective. Ever try to get customer service form any other BD brand?

I think I'm gonna wait till my friend gets his UBD-K8500. We both have the same TV. So if I see a dramatic improvement in picture quality over my Sony BDP-S790 4K up scaling machine which gives an impressive 4K up scaled picture I'll get one. I'll just have to wait for good content. We will be doing testing using an A/B method with The Martian as the test disc as I have the BD disc and he'll have the 4K version. Will use one TV with both players. I'm hoping to see a big improvement over my player as well as streamed content. I believe it's gonna be a given on the stream content.
