Cutting Through the Cord-Cutting Chaos

So you’ve decided to ditch cable and replace it with a number of carefully selected subscriptions to streaming services. But you’re finding it’s not all that easy. In fact, it’s a pain.

The New York Times recently teamed with The Wirecutter to compile “the definitive guide to cord-cutting.” After checking out numerous services, devices, and antennas, they came up with recommended bundles in five categories: For Movie Buffs, For Sports Addicts, For Fans of Premium Network Shows, For Binge Watchers, and For Children and Families. For each category, they recommend the Best Service and Best Hardware.

Check the report out here.

...and gain a thorough understanding of how technology can or cannot work.

This is more cord-shaving, but by utilizing your home network, existing systems / hardware, and an HDHomeRun Prime (with a CableCARD), you can get ALL of your subscribed channels. I personally save around $50/mo by virtually eliminating all rental fees. Plus I get to watch (and record) on MORE devices than a single STB.

P.S. RE: the pic associated with the blog entry, why wouldn't you just unscrew the coax from the STB? Seems like more effort to retrieve your wire-cutters and still have a dangling stub.
