Canadian startup MeiliAudio has taken a decidedly different approach to speaker design, shunning traditional configurations in favor of an elongated “TV console” with built-in powered speakers.

The company’s initial offering consists of three consoles (pictured above), all made of wood and featuring mid-century modern styling. Meili’s website is a work-in-progress so details are sparse, but a report in CE Pro said the company is owned and operated by Konstantin Mazin, a Vancouver-based craftsman who specializes in custom interiors, including entertainment units with integrated sound systems.

The floorstanding SM-70 console (top) measures 119 x 19 x 17 inches and features 160 watts of power. The ST-80 (middle) is similar in appearance to the SM-70 but is only 16 inches tall because it’s designed to be mounted on the wall and has no legs; power is 200 watts. Reminiscent of a Sixties-era stereo console, the SM-70 (bottom) measures 78.5 x 31.5 x 17 inches and features 240 watts of power.

Mazin told CE Pro he builds the consoles from scratch and delivery takes about two weeks. “The level of craftsmanship and build quality of these stands are extraordinary,” Mazin writes on his website. “Cabinets are fully CNC-machined. The system comes with its own set of power amplifiers (…chosen individually to satisfy all of our clients' needs) and the sound is sophisticated, pure, and clean [for movies and music].”

Prices start at $9,000.
