LG Ships Ultra-Short-Throw 4K Laser Projector

LG today announced that the CineBeam ultra-short-throw 4K laser projector it previewed at CES 2019 is now available for $5,999.

The HU85LA is designed to project images up to 120 inches (diagonal) when placed only 7 inches from the wall and uses dual red and blue lasers to expand color gamut to 92% of the DCI P3 cinema standard.

Housed in a “minimalist” rectangular cabinet, it’s the first projector to combine LG’s ThinQ artificial intelligence (AI) platform with Google Assistant voice control and supports HDR10 high dynamic range (HDR).

LG says the projector can be used in “higher ambient light conditions” thanks to a rated brightness of 2,700 ANSI lumens.

The projector boasts smart TV functionality for quick connection to Netflix and other streaming services and supports IP-control with home automation systems from Control4, Crestron, and Savant. LG’s Magic Remote, hailed as the first to meld motion-based user control with backlighting, is included.

Thanks for covering this new breakthrough product launch!

I'm proud to announce that LG selected our company to be the launch partner for their new dual laser 4K HDR UST projector, HU85LA.

LG's first allocation is scheduled to arrive in our store this Thursday, July 25th and our launch demo event is scheduled for Thursday, August 1 and Saturday, August 3rd. Press and public invited!

HU85LA will be doomed to slow sales at the quoted $5,999 retail price.
There is indeed a market for UST 4k projectors, however spending $6,000 and an additional $2,000- $5,000 for UST ALR screen will lead to limited sales. Xiomi's 4k UST laser projector surely can't match the Picture quality of LG's HU85L. Yet, at $2,000 and an additional $800-1,600 for an XY screen Pet crystal UST ALR screen this combination undercuts LG (projector only) by half price.
Let's see what Optoma will ask for it's own 4k UST laser projector (P1).
I suspect it will come close to LG's HU85LA in performance and features.
Hopefully Optoma P1 will cost under $4,000.

With all due respect, until you see LG's HU85LA for yourself you can't make reliably make those comments. from someone who has seen several of the UST projectors I can tell you LG's HU85LA delivers the best picture quality.

You can use whatever screen fits your application best so regardless of the UST projector you select the screen with cost the same.

Mr. Zohn my comment on LGHU85LA was not meant for the wealth market you happen to be bless to be a part. As owner of Value Electronics you know your stuff, but as a retailer and distributor, you have a vested interest in the promotion of the products you offer for sale.
Additionally, your income level can easily afford the $10,000 required to own the New LG UST projector and the additional ALR ST screen.
If I shared your income level I would echo your evaluation of the $6,000 HU85LA.
Let's agree to let the market determine the real world market value of the product. I contend that it will sell in far lower numbers than it should due to it's price, not it's quality level. Dell's own 4k UST Projector at $4,000 is a slow mover. Yet the new Vava and Xiaomi 4k laser UST (same projector, different chassis and distributors) are selling like hot cakes in the world market due to it's low price relative low price of $2,000. The Xiaomi can not match the picture quality and features of the LG, but it's value price (1/3 the price) makes it a superior "Value Electronic" product.

It's true that we have a successful business, but we're very far from being considered wealthy. We're middle class and live a happy, but modest lifestyle.

It's my love for quality a/v that drives my passion. I can assure you that I have never sold or promoted anything with any personal agenda or because it yielded a better profit. We sell three brands of UST projectors. I only commented about LG's HU85LA because this very nice article as it is about the HU85LA and limited my comments to the subject at hand.

LG's 4K HDR laser projector is not geared to the same clients at Xiaomi. Xiaomi is native 1080 HD DLP chip that performs e-shift to emulate 4K.

Also Xiaomi's projector has a single laser engine with a spinning RGB wheel to produce it's color. I'm sure it sell well and has a very good picture, but it's simply not in the sam category in anyway whatsoever.

The lens quality, contrast level, color fidelity and color saturation as well as motion resolution are excellent on LG's HU85LA. This is a premium product with excellent image quality and performance.

As I posted here earlier, whatever UST projector you buy the expensive UST screen is needed. So if you want to use you UST projector in high ambient light and you select a low end $2k UST projector you will still need the $4k UST screen. We're offering a bundle promotion that gives our clients a discount for buying your screen or cabinet of choice so the difference is not the delta you suggested, but your results and experiences will be far superior.
