Maker of Luxury Beds Teams with KEF to Offer a Novel Product
Nope.
I’m talking about a luxurious bed with world-class speakers built into its headboard. And why not? We routinely embed speakers in walls, ceilings, and cabinets so we can enjoy music around the house so it’s not that big of a stretch to imagine a set of speakers built into a headboard.
So goes the thinking behind the Seventy-Five, the latest offering from U.K.-based Savoir, which describes itself as a “creator of the world’s most exquisite, hand-crafted beds” — in this case, a bed with one of KEF’s best architectural speakers mounted flush on either side of its expansive headboard.
The Ci3160REFM-THX, which sits just below the top model in KEF’s Reference Series, situates a 5.25-inch Uni-Q coincident driver (with its integral tweeter) between two 6.5-inch woofers in a high-performance THX Ultra-certified ensemble. Positioning a speaker on either side of the gently curved headboard is intended to create a “truly immersive sound stage,” while’s KEF’s signature Uni-Q driver disperses sound evenly around the room (for those times when you want listen before getting into bed).
Remarkably, though, there’s more to this embedded sound system than these two excellent full-range speakers (each of which would cost $8,000 if purchased on their own) — additions that arguably push it over the top: Six of KEF’s Kube 8b powered subwoofers are integrated into the base of the bed to bolster the listening experience. Massage anyone? Each subwoofer, which carries a list price of $600 on its own, pairs an 8-inch woofer with a 300-watt Class D amplifier.
Building the Seventy-Five is quite the undertaking, requiring more than 150 hours of skilled craftsmanship, according to Savoir. The bed is upholstered using contrasting fabrics and the headboard and base are wrapped in “luxurious Kvadrat fabric” from Belgian designer Raf Simmons. “Sustainably sourced wool engineered to compliment the sound quality” is also used to construct the bed along with fully recycled Kirkby Design fabric on the back of the bed.
What’s in a Name?
The name Seventy-Five refers to the “ideal number of beats per minute [required for] a song to aid relaxation,” according to Savoir, which emphasizes the critical role a good night’s sleep plays in preventing stress-related ailments caused by insomnia.
“Music has the potential to transport us, which is exactly what we need in order to fall asleep,” explained Savoir’s resident sleep scientist, Dr. Rebecca Robins. “In our go-go busy lives it is easy for the day to fly by filled with work tasks, then bedtime rolls around and many of us struggle because we have not built in time to relax, unplug, and unwind. Music is one terrific way to separate from your busy day, transport yourself, and prepare the mind and body for sleep.”
Noting that the Seventy-Five is designed to help people “optimize their sleep health,” Savoir points to research that suggests listening to music, particularly classical music, reduces heart rate, blood pressure, and anxiety, thus improving sleep quality. Okay, based on our description of this most extravagant bed, you’ve probably already figured out that it doesn’t come cheap. As it turns out, not by a long shot with prices starting at $115,093.
The bed is made-to-order with other color and fabric options available. Savoir has 15 showrooms in major cities around the world, including New York, London, Paris, and Hong Kong.
