Epson to Add Laser Projector to UST Lineup this Fall

Epson today announced plans to cement its leadership position in the burgeoning ultra-short-throw (UST) projector category with a new laser-lit model it plans to ship in the fall.

The EpiqVision Ultra LS650 is a 3-chip 3LCD design with a native resolution of 1080p but uses Epson’s 4K PRO-UHD pixel-shifting technology and image processing to achieve 4K “without sacrificing picture brightness,” which is rated at 3,600 lumens. The projector is easy to set up using the Epson Setting Assistant app, according to the company, and able to project images up to 120 inches (diagonal) when placed only a short distance from the wall.

Pricing and availability is expected to be announced in October.

The LS650 is a smart projector based on the Android TV platform that provides quick access to several streaming services, including Amazon Prime, Hulu, and Disney+, HBO, and YouTube, in addition to supporting voice control via Google Assistant.

The projector also takes audio more seriously than you might expect through its onboard Yamaha-designed 2.1 virtual surround-sound system, while providing an eARC-enabled HDMI port for those who want to offload the sound to an AV receiver or soundbar for a more robust Dolby Atmos or DTS:X audio presentation.

Epson offers an optional SilverFlex ambient-light-rejecting (ALR) screen in 100- and 120-inch sizes that is engineered to redirect up to 90% of ambient light away from the screen to increase contrast and picture clarity.
