Desktop theater fans will love this. Samsung has introduced two new flat-panel TFT computer monitors with full HDTV capability, according to an October 26 announcement.

The SyncMaster 151MP and 171MP flat-panel monitors feature built-in TV tuner and video inputs for use with a DVD player, VCR, or camcorder, and offer "4-in-1 functionality with true HDTV-ready capability and a brand new modular TV-tuner design that lets users decide when to step up to a true multimedia experience," the announcement stated.

"As the world's number one manufacturer of computer monitors, Samsung is keeping a step ahead by developing the most unique and innovative displays in the marketplace today," said Samsung marketing vice president Rey Roque. "We are always looking to push the technology envelope, and the new 151MP and 171MP showcase Samsung's ability to provide high-end multimedia displays for consumers of all needs." The displays are approximately two inches deep, and allow users to watch two sources, using the picture-in-picture feature; a digital zoom enables the enlargement of any segment of the image.

The target market for the new high-resolution monitors is "high-end financial, medical, and corporate users" as well as home users and technophiles who demand the latest and most advanced viewing technologies. The 15" SyncMaster 151MP will retail for $749; the 17" SyncMaster 171MP will go for $1299. Both can operate on 12VDC power supplies for mobile use, and are currently available at Samsung dealers. The new monitors come with all-inclusive three-year warranties.
