Last week, 2netFX announced its recently developed 10 to 36 Mbp HDTV-over-IP streaming technology. The company says that with the recent addition of a live high-definition encoder from Motorola, the new system is compliant with industry standard protocols enabling High Definition Television (HDTV) content to be stored for later delivery or multicast in real-time over standard corporate data networks, satellite and the Internet.

According to 2netFX's Eric Yao, "through the past months of beta testing, our streaming HDTV-over-IP has proven itself in a wide range of applications. Now with the addition of the new digital compression techniques the Motorola HD encoder provides, it truly represents a tremendous breakthrough in multimedia distribution. HDTV can be easily delivered over switched broadband networks and we can effectively multicast HDTV programming over a cyberspace medium to a virtually unlimited number of viewers."

Yao added that this technology will "transform the entertainment and information broadcast industry by offering a replacement for expensive and complex analog television transmissions. Using 2netFX software, HDTV digital video transmission will offer higher quality, greater interactivity, and more flexibility than analog at a lesser cost and with lower bandwidth utilization."

2netFX says its technology permits the HDTV standard (using the MPEG2 MP@HL file format and compression standard specifications) to be used over both commonplace corporate data networks and the Internet. The company also envisions its system to be used for long-distance applications for next-generation high-speed Internets, such as Internet2 or MMDS/LMDS wireless access systems for homes that are now being equipped with 100 MB to 1 GB ethernet connections.
