Having owned a TXNR609, I can tell you that for MUSIC playback, a lot of what you report is due to your choice in AVR. Swap it out for a Marantz and listen again, you will be pleasantly surprised!

Have this setup mounted on top of my ST50 65" and powered by a Pioneer SC-55. Love it
