The 2017 edition of the annual Burning Amp Festival (BAF) will take place at the Fort Mason Center in San Francisco on Sunday, November 12th from 8:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Held every fall since 2007, BAF has grown into a leading international event for do-it-yourself audio enthusiasts and professionals. DIY audio — the original maker movement — dates back to the 1940’s and 1950’s when hi-fi was in its infancy and a lot of great-sounding equipment was assembled at home by amateurs.

The event celebrates all facets of audio technology — old and new, tube and solid state, analog and digital — and offers the opportunity to exchange ideas and listen to one-of-a-kind, hand-built gear. The festival has become so popular that show organizers have been extended the hours this year.

In addition to product displays and demos, there will be auctions, raffles, and giveaways — including a batch of Amp Camp circuit boards from Nelson Pass, loudspeaker drivers, and assorted parts.

Four talks are scheduled throughout the day in the Firehouse room:

• 11 a.m. – Damian Martin technologist for Monster Inc., will demonstrate a new precision measurement interface for computers and a device designed by Jan Didden that automatically sets input voltage to your computer interface at 1 volt to ensure accurate measurements.

• 1 p.m. – Noted speaker designer Siegfried Linkwitz will give a presentation on audio perception and demonstrate his acclaimed LX series open-baffle speakers.

• 2 p.m. – A talk by veteran preamp designer Wayne Colburn of Pass Labs.

• 3 p.m. – Nelson Pass, noted designer and founder of Pass Labs, will demonstrate his latest amplifiers, which diyAudio will sell as kits. Demo gear will include SAL speakers.

Attendees are encouraged to bring their own DIY gear and those who do will be admitted to the event for free.
