David Bowie's Final Album Is No. 1 in the U.S.
The album sold 181,000 copies in its debut week, ending Adele's seven-week run with her new album 25, according to Billboard. Blackstar was also the only new release to break into the Top 10 for the week.
Bowie's entire catalog has also experienced a spike in sales since his death. Standouts include Best of Bowie, which rose to No. 4 on the charts, and 1973's landmark The Rise & Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars, which claimed the No. 21 spot.
His highest-charting album had been The Next Day, which debuted and peaked at No. 2 in 2013. Over the years, only six other Bowie albums made the Top 10 of the Billboard 200: Let's Dance (1983 No.4), ChangesOneBowie (1976, No. 10), Station to Station (1976, No. 3), Young Americans (1975, No. 9), David Live (1974, No. 8), and Diamond Dogs (1974, No. 5).
