Just recently saw Mi:5 in Atmos and was a bit underwhelmed by the sound design. The only one so far that I have been impressed with was 2014's Godzilla. missed Edge of Tomorrow in theaters but absolutely love it in my home theater. I certainly hope that Atmos mixes will become much more dynamic so that it will be more evident to non-home theater geeks.
Fifth Element to Get the Atmos Treatment
Slated for release on October 27 under the Blu-Ray Supreme Cinema banner, both discs will be packaged in a limited-edition acrylic “Clear Case” featuring 24-page behind-the-scenes booklets with rare photos. In addition to Atmos soundtracks, both films have been restored and remastered.
Of course, Element is a classic among videophiles, having achieved near cult status at the 1998 CES as the home theater demo. The Diva opera scene and ensuing mayhem may well have been the most played clip that year.
There have now been 20 Blu-ray titles mixed in Dolby Atmos, Dolby reports, seven of which have yet to be released. The other forthcoming titles are:
- Mad Max: Fury Road (Warner Bros.): Release date September 1, 2015
- Age of Adaline (Lionsgate): Release date September 8, 2015
- Bram Stoker’s Dracula (Sony): Release date October 6, 2015
- San Andreas (Warner Bros.): Release date October 20, 2015
- Game of Thrones Season 1&2 (HBO): Release date November 3, 2015

With bated breath, I wait. Both are movies I bought in VHS Widescreen format ages ago and never got around to buying on either disc format. I haven't watched either in ages. I still have a VCR, but the stereo head must be shot, 'cause, unless I play any of my old tapes in mono, they sound worse than they look on my plasma!
I actually saw "Leon" the other day on Blu-Ray and ALMOST bought it. Glad I didn't.

The only Atmos experience I've had was Mockingjay Part 1, but I wouldn't want the mix to me more evident. What I heard was the most realistic imaging I've ever known. I truly felt like I was looking through a window and that the "hovercraft" was a real thing flying away behind the walls.
