Flipped (Blu-ray)
Based on the book by Wendelin Van Draanen, Flipped is a charming picture of two kids discovering that beauty is more than skin deep. Rob Reiner coaxes great performances out of the young leads and this is one of the best live-action family films I've seen in years.
Video Highlights
- AVC/1080p encode on a BD-25 disc
- Warm color palette
- Average detail
- Longer shots lack definition
Audio Highlights
- DTS-HD MA 5.1 soundtrack
- Front-heavy presentation
- Dialog intensive soundtrack
- Minimal ambience from rear soundstage
The pedestrian presentation doesn't detract from the enjoyment of the movie, but it doesn't add much either.
Bonus Materials (All in HD)
- The Differences between a Boy and a Girl featurette
- Outtakes
- Embarrassing Egg-Scuses featurette
- How To Make the Best Volcano featurette
- Flipped: Anatomy of a Near Kiss
Flipped isn't a film with over-the-top action, rampant CGI, or 3D, but it has a wonderful storysomething most blockbuster films lack. Unfortunately, as ticket prices head north of $10 movie audiences aren't flocking to this type of film, but hopefully it finds an audience on home video so the studios will continue to make films of this genre. Highly recommended.
