Give Your TV a Lift
The company makes TV cabinets with integrated lifts that accommodate different screen sizes. A variety of styles—including one modeled after a vintage trunk—are available or you can buy just the “naked” mechanism, which is what they were demonstrating at CEDIA. I was impressed with the operation of the Whisper II lift—it was steady, smooth, and dead quiet.
Touchstone sells three lifts, ranging in price from $449 to $949. All include a simple two-button (up/down) RF remote control, 12-volt trigger for tying into an automation system, and are covered by a 5-year warranty. The top model, which supports screens up to 65 inches in size, is equipped with a manual swivel mechanism so you can adjust the screen over a 60-degree arc.
If automation is your thing, a hideaway TV cabinet at the foot of your bed or in your family room will fit right in. But unless you’re handy—real handy—you’ll probably want to opt for one Touchstone’s cabinets with the lift already in place. More information is available at touchstonehomeproducts.com.
