GoldenEar Sub Fires in Four Directions
GoldenEar Technology showed a prototype sub with a total of four 12-inch drivers. They include two active drivers, firing from front and back; and two passive radiators, firing from top and bottom. This is said to neutralize cabinet resonance, and the demo proved it with strong, pure, controlled bass output. Have we mentioned the 1600-watt monster amp? Our large-speaker correspondent (that is, a correspondent who covers large speakers, as opposed to a speaker correspondent who is large) will probably have more to say about the world-beating Triton Five towers, which offered a definitive performance of Copland's "Fanfare for the Common Man." They'll be out in March for $1998/pair, an excellent value for so much delicacy and oomph.
