HI-FI '98 Product Previews, Part Three
Several manufacturers will be demonstrating state-of-the-art home-theater products at HI-FI '98---some of which have never before been seen by the public.
Vidikron
Vidikron's Epoch D-300 LCD projector displays all standard TV signals and most popular computer formats, enabling users to adapt the projector to their viewing preferences and room rather than the other way around.
Designed to meet the needs of discerning videophiles, this latest in a series of gorgeous projectors features Digital Pixel Compression, an exclusive digital circuit that allows the display of 1080i HDTV signals. Other features include digital keystone correction of ±30 degrees from the remote control for accurate, undistorted images and easy setup; a built-in line doubler; advanced chroma decoding for improved color transitions; a multidimensional comb filter that virtually eliminates cross-color artifacts; and a motorized power zoom, which is controllable from the remote.
NXT
NXT has rewritten the rules of speaker design---but you already knew that. HI-FI '98 provides the first opportunity for the public to hear what has generated all the hoopla. After a century in which ungainly boxes have necessitated aesthetic compromises and the sacrifice of precious floor space, speakers that can---literally---be hung on the wall have finally arrived.
Now boasting over 20 licensees for their revolutionary flat-panel speaker technology, NXT will be showing the latest designs, including a worldwide first: a complete NXT home-theater system using a DTS surround system. This radical alternative to the traditional home theater features a projection screen that doubles as the center-channel speaker! NXT will also offer a glimpse of the future: speakers built into the lids of laptop computers, speakers incorporated into the interiors of car door-panels, and even speakers disguised as paintings.
Monitor Audio USA
Monitor Audio will be introducing the Studio Theater System, which features the new Studio Center and Studio Subwoofers. This system features Studio 60s for the front left and right channels, and Studio 50s for rear surround effects. The active subwoofers come with 150W or 200W integrated power amps and feature a metal driver, variable low-frequency gain, variable high-frequency gain, variable phase (0-180 degrees), audio/video mode selection switch, and a low-frequency cutoff at 28 Hz.
