Hitachi 43FDX01 B 43-Inch Rear-Projection HD Monitor HT Labs Measures
The top chart shows the gray scale of the Hitachi HD monitor relative to its color temperature at various levels of intensity, or brightness (20 IRE is dark gray; 100 IRE is bright white). As you can see, the gray scale as set by the factory, in the most accurate menu setting, measures blue with dark images and leans more red with brighter images. After making adjustments using the Photo Research PR-650, the gray scale measures within 300 degrees of D6500 Kelvin, the accurate setting, across most of the range and only drops to 6,000 K with bright images. The bottom chart shows the gray scale relative to the color points of the display's red, green, and blue CRTs. The green and blue color points match or exceed those specified by SMPTE, but the red phosphor falls a bit short. The display will reproduce most of the colors available in the NTSC or ATSC systems; deep reds may seem a bit orange. The gray scale measures blue before calibration and is more accurate afterward.—MW
