Alice in Wonderland 3DWalt Disney Pictures (Blu-ray)
Sound: 4.5/5
Extras: 4
Inviting and magical, "Alice In Wonderland" is an imaginative new twist on one of the most beloved stories of all time. Alice, now 19 years old, returns to the whimsical world she first entered as a child and embarks on a journey to discover her true destiny. This Wonderland is a world beyond your imagination and unlike anything you've seen before. The extraordinary characters you've loved come to life richer and more colorful than ever.
The 3D Blu-ray presentation is pretty much exactly what I remember from the 3D theatrical presentation. While the 3D does add some depth to the opening sequences, you really don’t get the full effect until Alice makes her trip to Wonderland. From there it is eye candy galore with rich color and amazing detail. The 3D process was done in post-production and doesn’t quite stack up to the bar set by the popular “Avatar”, but it does do a pretty solid job with depth and dimensionality. I just don’t know if it adds enough to the experience to recommend it over the already excellent 2D Blu-ray. The DTS-HD Master Audio mix is also a delight and adds an ominous tone to the whole production. Deep bass is punchy and the surrounds offer an incredibly rich spatial soundstage. From a technical standpoint there isn’t much not to love about this film.
The 3D Blu-ray collection also includes the standard 2D Blu-ray plus a DVD and digital copy of the film. On the Blu-ray you’ll find a ton of production features that delve into the making of the film, the incredible visuals, and all of the characters.
While the 3D presentation does add some nice dimensionality to the presentation, the 2D release is already spectacular. I would be hard pressed to recommend this one over the previous release but if you are looking for another title to add to your 3D library, this wouldn’t be regretted.
