Paranormal Activity 2—Paramount

Just as Dan and Kristi welcome a newborn baby into their home, a demonic presence begins terrorizing them, tearing apart their perfect world and turning it into an inescapable nightmare. Security cameras capture the torment, making every minute horrifyingly real.

The visual style of this film is nearly identical to the previous entry but this time the production revolves around a lot of security cameras placed throughout the house. They still seem to be of pretty good quality with solid resolution and depth, but like the previous film they pale in comparison to what we see from normal film productions. This is intended though so you really can’t fault them. What the production does do though is give you a chilling soundtrack that makes effective use of dynamic range and soundstage to REALLY add to the tension of the film. The sound design is riveting in its mood and atmosphere and the use of silence is outstanding. Get ready to jump folks!

This 2-disc set offers a DVD of the film plus a digital copy for your portable devices. You also get some newly uncovered footage on top of the extended director’s cut.

You’d think you would be prepared for a film like this after the first one but this one is just as jarring with amazing atmosphere and some serious thrills. It will get your pulse racing with its moodiness and sudden jolts and I’m sure more than a few will have trouble sleeping afterwards. A must have for fans of the genre!
