JL Audio Expands Fathom Line of In-Wall/Ceiling Subwoofers
Both the in-wall and in-ceiling models feature a JL-built low-profile 8-inch woofer housed in a compact, heavily braced enclosure that fits between standard 16-inch on-center studs and a slot-style port located near the perimeter of the driver to “enhance efficiency and low-bass output.” The in-ceiling model accommodates ceiling joist widths between 16 and 25.5 inches. Prices range between $2,300 and $3,500.
Each system includes a separate, rack-mountable amplifier rated to deliver 300 or 600 watts RMS for the single- or dual-driver systems, respectively; an on-board signal processor features JL’s 18-band Digital Automatic Room Optimization (D.A.R.O.) system and high-pass crossover outputs, all accessible via an easy-to-use, menu-driven interface and LCD display.
Enclosure dimensions are 61.6 x 14 x 3.25 inches for the in-wall IWS-SYS-108 and dual-enclosure IWS-SYS-208 models and 40.7 x 14 x 5.1 inches for the in-ceiling ICS-SYS-108 and dual-enclosure ICS-SYS-208 models — all with a 10.5 x 10.5-inch white, paintable grille.
“We are excited about the potential of the 8-inch in-wall and in-ceiling subwoofer solutions in our growing line of architectural audio solutions,” said company president Andy Oxenhorn. “These models have a very small, low-profile grille that will please customers looking for a visually unobtrusive solution that delivers true JL Audio sub-bass performance.”
