Klipsch Reference RF-83 Speaker System HT Labs Measures

HT Labs Measures: Klipsch Reference RF-83 Speaker System

•L/R Sensitivity:
94 dB from 500 Hz to 2 kHz

•Center Sensitivity:
94.5 dB from 500 Hz to 2 kHz

•Surround Sensitivity:
93.5 dB from 500 Hz to 2 kHz

This graph shows the quasi-anechoic (employing close-miking of all woofers) frequency response of the RF-83 L/R (purple trace), RT-12 subwoofer (blue trace), RC-64 center channel (green trace), and RS-62 surround (red trace). All passive loudspeakers were measured with grilles at a distance of 1 meter with a 2.83-volt input and scaled for display purposes.

The RF-83's listening-window response (a five-point average of axial and +/–15-degree horizontal and vertical responses) measures +3.04/–4.40 decibels from 200 hertz to 10 kilohertz. The –3-dB point is at 37 Hz, and the –6-dB point is at 33 Hz. Impedance reaches a minimum of 3.60 ohms at 179 Hz and a phase angle of –56.86 degrees at 74 Hz.

The RC-64's listening-window response measures +2.69/–4.14 dB from 200 Hz to 10 kHz. An average of axial and +/–15-degree horizontal responses measures +2.80/–4.05 dB from 200 Hz to 10 kHz. The –3-dB point is at 73 Hz, and the –6-dB point is at 59 Hz. Impedance reaches a minimum of 3.71 ohms at 181 Hz and a phase angle of –64.38 degrees at 91 Hz.

The RS-62's three-face averaged response measures +2.22/–3.69 dB from 200 Hz to 10 kHz. The –3-dB point is at 81 Hz, and the –6-dB point is at 66 Hz. Impedance reaches a minimum of 4.36 ohms at 302 Hz and a phase angle of –61.96 degrees at 136 Hz.

The RT-12's close-miked response, normalized to the level at 80 Hz, indicates that the lower –3-dB point is at 24 Hz and the –6-dB point is at 22 Hz. The upper –3-dB point is at 149 Hz with the controls set to LFE and Flat modes.—MJP
