LG to Preview 2nd-Gen UST Laser Projector at CES

LG has announced plans to unveil a followup to the $3,000 CineBeam HU80KA portable 4K laser projector it shipped last summer at CES 2019, which opens January 8 in Las Vegas.

Designed to project 4K images onto “practically any flat surface,” the second-generation CineBeam HU85L ultra-short-throw (UST) projector beams a 7.5-foot (diagonal) image when placed 2 inches from the wall and a gargantuan 10-foot image from 7 inches away.

The compact projector is capable of projecting “bright and clear” images thanks to a rated brightness of 2,500 ANSI lumens and can be controlled using gestures and by speaking voice commands into LG’s Magic Remote. Examples of voice control include operational cues such as “turn off projector after the movie has finished” and directing playback of specific content with commands like, “play yoga videos on YouTube.”

Connectivity options include wireless streaming, USB, Ethernet, and HDMI, and the projector is equipped with a 12-point keystone adjustment to “eliminate the image distortion that often affects other UST projectors.”

No pricing was announced.
