Luxman to Showcase New Gear at NY Audio Show
The main attraction will be the retro-styled L-509X integrated amplifier ($9,495), which the company is touting as a “single chassis separate designed to deliver tremendous dynamic headroom into virtually any loudspeaker, regardless of impedance or efficiency.” The amp is rated for 2 x 120 watts into 8 ohms or 2 x 240 into 4 ohms and is distinguished by its prominent VU meters.
Luxman will also preview its forthcoming PD-151 belt-driven turntable (price tbd), which is slated for delivery in the early part of 2019. The table is fitted with a custom Jelco tonearm and universal headshell and will be demonstrated via a direct connection to the L-509x, which has gain and impedance settings for moving-magnet and moving-coil phono cartridges.
A second turntable — the belt-driven PD-171A ($6,995) equipped with Ortofon’s Cadenza Blue moving coil cartridge — will be demonstrated with the EQ-500 vacuum tube phono equalizer/preamp ($6,495), which features a six-position load-capacity selector and other adjustments for refining vinyl playback.
The D-06u SACD player ($8,495), successor to Luxman’s flagship D-08u player, will cap off the exhibit. In addition to spinning discs, the player can be connected to a PC via USB to play hi-res music files. The D-06u boasts a rigid and stable rotation system, highly accurate disc reading, a 32-bit signal processor, and a USB digital-to-analog (D/A) converter that supports 32-bit/384-kHz PCM and 2.8/5.6 MHz DSD playback.
As exclusive distributor of Melco Audio products in the U.S., Luxman will also demonstrate the new Melco N100 streaming music player ($1,999), featuring a 2-terabyte (TB) hard drive and three USB 2.0 ports. The N100 will be paired with the Melco D100 Red Book-spec CD player/ripper ($1,295).
For the show, Luxman has partnered with Queensbury, NY-based Adirondack Audio & Video. The demonstration will also feature the $13,000 Magellan Cello tower speaker system from France’s Triangle Acoustics.
All gear will be demonstrated using the brand’s 15000 series cabling.
