McIntosh Expands Hi-Res Capabilities of its Compact Audio System
The MXA80 Integrated Audio System ($6,000) maintains the same footprint and functionality as its predecessor but now supports DSD and DXD music files thanks to a new digital-to-analog converter (DAC).
Housed in a polished stainless-steel chassis featuring the company’s signature glass front panel and gloss-black finish, the system includes a pair of two-way desktop speakers powered by a 50-watt stereo amplifier and has a built-in MHA100 headphone amp.
Six inputs—four digital and two analog—are provided, including a USB input that accepts 32-bit/384-kHz PCM signals and supports DSD64, DSD128, and DSD256 along with DXD 352.8kHz and DXD 384kHz.
The system has a five-step bass boost control and employs McIntosh’s Headphone Crossfeed Director (HXD) for “adding dimension” to personal listening and Power Guard technology to prevent potentially destructive amplifier clipping.
