I grabbed some Aviano 2 and 5's about 5 years ago - and I fell in love with them. I could have had the Aviano 6 and I wanted the Mezzo 2's, but in spite of their website being up, clearly this brand must be defunct. At least take the website down. I guess these speakers were too disruptive in the quality and pricing arena of ridiculously expensive brands.
Mordaunt-Short Aviano 1 Speaker System HT Labs Measures
Satellite Sensitivity:
88.5 dB from 500 Hz to 2 kHz
Center Sensitivity:
92 dB from 500 Hz to 2 kHz
This graph shows the quasi-anechoic (employing close-miking of all woofers) frequency response of the Aviano 1 satellite (purple trace), Aviano 5 center channel (green trace), and Aviano 7 subwoofer (blue trace). All passive loudspeakers were measured with grilles at a distance of 1 meter with a 2.83-volt input and scaled for display purposes.
The Aviano 1’s listening-window response (a five-point average of axial and +/–15-degree horizontal and vertical responses) measures +1.30/–2.35 decibels from 200 hertz to 10 kilohertz. The –3DB point is at 67 Hz, and the –6-dB point is at 57 Hz. Impedance reaches a minimum of 4.93 ohms at 9.9 kHz and a phase angle of –51.32 degrees at 4.0 kHz.
The Aviano 5’s listening-window response measures +1.53/–4.53 dB from 200 Hz to 10 kHz. An average of axial and +/–15-degree horizontal responses measures +1.70/–4.37 dB from 200 Hz to 10 kHz. The –3DB point is at 80 Hz, and the –6-dB point is at 66 Hz. Impedance reaches a minimum of 4.17 ohms at 208 Hz and a phase angle of –35.75 degrees at 120 Hz.
The Aviano 7’s close-miked response, normalized to the level at 80 Hz, indicates that the lower –3DB point is at 45 Hz and the –6-dB point is at 38 Hz. The upper –3DB point is at 169 Hz with the Variable Notch Filter switch set to Off and the Frequency control at maximum.—MJP
