Clark Synthesis Music by the pool? How about music in it - Clark Synthesis's AQ339 produces sound both above and below the waterline. The central 10-inch foam ring floats the speaker, and you can attach a tether (as well as speaker wire) to the active underwater driver. The topside dome is passively driven to produce sound via a stainless-steel rod. Both domes are 8 inches in diameter. Above water, the sensitivity is rated as 83 dB. The plastic dome is designed to endure wide temperature variations and even salt water. Price: $600 each. www.clarksynthesis.com, 800-898-1945

AnthemPart of Anthem's high-end Statement series, the D1 preamplifier/processor is designed to control even the most elaborate home theater. It decodes all Dolby Digital and DTS formats and throws in proprietary surround processing for stereo-based movies and music. Digital audio signals are upsampled to a lofty 192 kHz before they're converted to analog for output through the processor's RCA or balanced XLR jacks. The processor can feed stereo and video signals to two additional, independent zones, and a Record Path output can act as a fourth zone. The four component-video inputs and two outputs are all HDTV-capable. Price: $4,999. statement.anthemav.com, 905-632-0180 Legacy Flat-panel TVs can provide an amazing picture while taking up little space - wouldn't it be great to have a speaker that does the same for sound? Legacy Audio says its Sconce on-wall speaker is up for the job, with a stylish, curved-wood cabinet that complements the sleek lines of flat TVs. Its dual 5 1/4 -inch woofers and 1-inch ribbon tweeter are said to sound best when the speaker is mounted flush against the wall. The front-channel Sconce is 34 1/2 inches tall (or wide when used as a center speaker), but the less obtrusive Sconce Surround (not shown) measures only 20 inches and looks like half a Sconce. Prices: $1,498 a pair for both models. www.legacyaudio.com, 610-965-0494
