Onkyo to Add Mid-Price Receivers to RZ Series
The TX-RZ820 ($1,400) and TX-RZ720 ($1,100) are THX Certified Select and deliver 7 x 130 and 7 x 110 watts, respectively. The TX-RZ620 ($900) is 7 x 100 watts. Power ratings are FTC, two channels driven into 8 ohms with 0.08% THD.
All models have six HDMI inputs (one on the front panel) that support all three high dynamic range (HDR) formats—Dolby Vision, HDR10, and HLG (Hybrid Log-Gamma)—in addition to supporting the BT.2020 color space and 4K/60p/4:4:4/24-bit video pass-through with HDCP 2.2. The RZ720 and RZ820 have a Zone 2 HDMI output and the RZ620 has an HDMI sub output for connecting a second TV or projector.
Other common features include a 384 kHz/32-bit AK4458 digital-to-analog converter (DAC), AccuReflex phase-alignment processing to enhance the performance of Dolby Atmos-enabled speakers, dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth streaming, a phono input, and onboard apps for Pandora, Tidal, Spotify, TuneIn internet radio, and Deezer streaming services—all controllable via the Onkyo Controller app.
All models support hi-res audio up to 192 kHz/24-bit resolution as well as DSD 11.2 MHz and 5.6 MHz and Dolby TrueHD in addition to wireless multiroom audio streaming over FireConnect, AirPlay and apps that support Chromecast built-in and DTS Play-Fi (both to be enabled via a future firmware update).
Both RZ620 and RZ720 also have powered Zone 2 speaker outputs and a pre-/line output serviced by a DAC for network, S/PDIF, and analog sources, while the TX-RZ820 adds powered Zone 3 outputs and has two sets of pre-/line outputs. Each zone has independent balance, tone, and volume controls. All three models also support home automation control with a 12-volt trigger output, IP control, and setup over LAN, RS-232, and IR.
The TX-RZ820 has an aluminum front panel, 7.2-channel pre-outs for outboard amplifiers and VLSC filtering, which is said to remove subtle digital noise, on all channels; the other models use it only on the front left and right channels.
