Onkyo today announced plans to ship two compact hi-fi systems in September.

Reminiscent of the CD-based minisystems that were popular in the ’90s, the CS-N575 ($499) and CS-375 ($349) each comprise a pair of compact bookshelf speakers and a stereo receiver with a built-in CD player, FM tuner, and modern audio amenities such as streaming via Bluetooth and Wi-Fi through DTS Play-Fi, Chromecast built-in, and the Blackfire FireConnect protocol. Play-Fi will be enabled via a future firmware update.

Both models include a 96-kHz/24-bit-capable optical digital audio input, USB port, headphone jack, and RCA line-level input. The CS-N575 adds a pre-out for connecting a subwoofer, direct access to the music streaming services Spotify, Tidal, Deezer, Pandora, and TuneIn internet radio, and hi-res audio support up to 192-kHz/24-bit in FLAC, WAV, and ALAC formats and DSD in up to 5.6 MHz resolution.

On both models, functions are selected in the large LCD window using a jog dial/button and the system is controlled is via a supplied remote. The CS-N575 has a larger LCD screen that displays album art and can also be controlled via the free Onkyo Controller app.

Rated power output for both models is 2 x 20 watts (at 1 kHz into 8 ohms for the CS-N575 and 6 ohms for the CS-375).
