Onkyo TX-NR807 A/V Receiver Video Test Bench
The Onkyo does an excellent job on all of our standard digital tests except for a 2:2 cadence, which is a common failure. But it performed poorly on our analog video processing tests, which involve cross-converting a component input to an HDMI output, in both SD and HD. On the same analog tests, it failed the resolution tests and completely cut off all of the information in the black-and-white clipping patterns on the Spears & Munsil High-Definition Benchmark Blu-ray Disc. If you can avoid using the Onkyo’s cross-conversion feature, you’ll be better off. THX also recommends against using this feature on all of the AVRs and surround processors it certifies, suggesting you instead use the same format for both input and output—that is, for example, a component output for a component input.—TJN
