Onkyo TX-SR806 A/V Receiver Video Test Bench
The TX-SR806 uses the Genesis/Faroudja Cortez solution. In Through mode, you must turn off the onscreen display to completely defeat video-processing artifacts that soften the image. With digital signals all the resolution in SD and HD signals is preserved. Even with 2:2 mode selected, the TX-SR806 would not properly deinterlace 2:2-based HD or SD content. Converting analog HD signals to digital results in a huge loss of resolution. Scaling quality with SD sources was quite good with digital input signals, but the analog signals were slightly rolled off and showed some artifacts. Video clipping was an issue with the analog video section. Overall, the TX-SR806 does a great job as a digital video switcher and basic video processor. However, analog signals do take a hit, so keep that in mind if you utilize a lot of analog sources.—KD
