Pirates Crack 4K Copy Protection on Netflix
Pirates have found a way around the High-Bandwidth Digital Copy Protection (HDCP) scheme used by Netflix and other content providers to prevent copyrighted 4K content from being copied, according to a post on Torrent Freak.
“A copy of the first episode of Breaking Bad worth nearly 18 gigabytes is currently being traded on various torrent sites and more leaks are expected to appear in the future,” the post said.
As of Friday, the leak was “only available on private torrent trackers but it’s expected to eventually leak to public sites as well.” It is not known if the hackers cracked HDCP 2.2 or found another way to capture the stream and whether the content contains watermarks that would enable the source of the breach to be traced.
