Samsung Brings QLED Tech to Design-Focused Serif TV
Developed in collaboration with the award-winning Parisian design duo Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec, The Serif was introduced with a 40-inch screen in 2016 and has since migrated to a 55-inch screen that sells for $1,600. Unique in appearance, the TV’s “I”-shaped frame is an attempt to rethink how a TV should look and function — a minimalist aesthetic meant to blend seamlessly into the home.
In addition to boosting performance with QLED backlighting, which uses quantum dot crystals to create more realistic color, Samsung has added an Ambient Mode that can “artfully display” time, weather, and other information and photos or one of 10 “palettes” instead of a blank screen when the TV is not in use. Two custom patterns (Fabric and Leaf) are each available in five colors.
The TV also supports high dynamic range, including HDR10+, wireless streaming via Bluetooth and AirPlay2, and voice control through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant.
