Sony BDP-S1 Blu-ray Player Update
One piece of semi-disturbing news was confirmed to me yesterday. Although Sony’s PlayStation3 will carry both Ethernet and wireless means of connecting to the Internet, Sony’s standalone BD-PS1 Blu-ray player will not even have an Ethernet connection,
I inquired with Sony’s reps about this at the show and this was confirmed, When I said it was my understanding that some of Blu-ray’s vaunted interactivity features would require an Internet connection Sony’s rep said it was his understanding too, but that this first-gen player won’t support those features. It will support full Java-based interactivity, I was told, but nothing that would require Internet connectivity,
If it’s correct that the PS3 game console, which is also a full-blown BD player, will support these features too, well, that piece looks like a better and better deal all the time, doesn’t it?
