Sony’s booth at CEDIA 2024 was buzzing with excitement, where the company introduced its latest high-end projectors: the BRAVIA Projector 8 (VPL-XW6100ES) and the BRAVIA Projector 9 (VPL-XW8100ES). These native 4K HDR laser projectors are designed for premium home theater setups, boasting significant advancements in picture quality, brightness, and gaming responsiveness.

The BRAVIA Projector 8 and BRAVIA Projector 9 are significant upgrades from their predecessors, the XW6000ES and XW7000ES. Both projectors are powered by Sony's advanced XR Processor for Projector, the same chip used in their 2024 BRAVIA TVs. This processor supports features like XR Dynamic Tone Mapping, XR Deep Black, XR Triluminos Pro, and XR Clear Image, enabling enhanced contrast, deep blacks, vivid colors, and refined image clarity.

The BRAVIA Projector 9 delivers 3,400 lumens of brightness, ideal for larger or brighter rooms, while the BRAVIA Projector 8 produces 2,700 lumens—perfect for typical home theater environments. Both projectors use Sony’s laser light technology, offering up to 20,000 hours of use before brightness degrades, ensuring a long lifespan with minimal maintenance.

For gamers, both projectors come equipped with HDMI 2.1 ports, supporting 4K at 120Hz with a low input lag of just 12 milliseconds. This low latency ensures smooth, responsive gameplay, a rare feature in the projection space. Additionally, features like Corner Keystone Correction and Lens Shift simplify installation in rooms with difficult configurations, allowing for flexibility in placement. Their lightweight, compact design further enhances ease of installation.

With Sony’s XR Processor, the projectors deliver a true cinematic experience. XR Dynamic Tone Mapping optimizes brightness on a frame-by-frame basis, ensuring rich HDR content. The XR Deep Black feature provides deeper blacks while maintaining shadow detail, while XR Triluminos Pro delivers a wider color palette, offering over a billion colors for lifelike images. XR Clear Image further enhances clarity and upscales content to 4K resolution, ensuring a sharp and noise-free picture.

Notably, the BRAVIA Projector 9 also includes a Live Color Enhancer for more vivid and vibrant colors, especially useful in rooms with ambient light. This feature ensures that bright scenes remain true to life without oversaturation.

Sony’s booth also highlighted their award-winning BRAVIA 9 Mini LED TVs, crowned "King of TV" in 2024, thanks to advanced backlighting technology. Sony’s emphasis on a complete AV ecosystem was apparent, with their unified BRAVIA brand, spanning projectors, TVs, and home audio products. The synergy between Sony’s content creation tools, such as the Venice camera, and their home entertainment products underscores their commitment to delivering cinema-quality experiences directly to consumers.
