Sony Vending Machines
Actually, Sony would prefer that you call its branded vending machines "automated kiosks." And the machines' maker, Zoom Systems, refers to them as "robotic stores." Whatever you call 'em, the Sony Access units are currently being test-marketed in various locations, including: • Malls: FlatIron Crossing (Broomfield, Colorado), Mall of Georgia (Buford), and Santa Rosa (California) Plaza. • Airports: Dallas/Fort Worth and Indianapolis.
What exactly do they vend - er, automatically distribute via robotic arm after you've made your selection by touchscreen and paid by credit or debit card? Not just DVDs (offered by similar kiosks) but a host of other media, including CDs, UMDs, PSP titles, videogames, blank discs, and Memory Sticks. You can also get portable gear and accessories like PSP and MP3 players, mini-speakers, headphones, batteries, and specially branded Sony M&M's called S&M's. (Kidding!)
