UFC Fight the First to be Streamed Live in 4K
The event, available in the U.S. and Canada, is the first pay-per-view UFC fight to be streamed live in 4K resolution, according to NeuLion, whose NeuLion Digital Platform is used to stream entertainment and sports, including NFL and NBA games, in 4K.
The 4K PPV event will also be available to DirecTV subscribers who have the company’s Genie HR54 DVR.
The fight will be delivered at 60 frames per second to Internet-connected Sony 4K/Ultra HDTVs built in 2015 and 2016, according to NeuLion.
“Live sports, delivered in 4K, is the killer App,” said Nick Colsey, Sony’s vice president of business development. “NeuLion is the leader in delivering live 4K streaming and we are excited to partner with them to integrate NeuLion’s 4K streaming technology on our Sony 4K HDR Ultra HD televisions to ensure the very best 4K experience for consumers”
The penetration of U.S. households that own at least one 4K TV is expected to reach 34 percent by 2019, representing about 34 million homes, according to the research firm IHS, setting the stage for an increase in 4K streaming of live sports.
