Voom Goes Poof
Bad news Voom. After Dish pulled the plug on this great source of HD content, it didn't really stand a chance. No other major provider stepped up to carry the 15 HD channels of Voom, so, by the end of January, no more Voom.
Two HD channels of Voom are broadcast internationally, so a select few Voom employees will remain on board. The rest are unemployed. Not to be mean, but hopefully, they all saw the writing on the wall.
More details . . .
Cablevision, owner of VoomHD, is still in litigation with Dish, who they say violated a 15-year commitment to carry Voom.
From an AP report: Joshua Sapan, Rainbow's chief executive, said in an internal memo that the decision to end Voom was prompted by Dish, formerly known as EchoStar.
"It became clear that we can no longer operate Voom domestically, particularly without EchoStar fulfilling its obligations and providing its support," he said.
Cablevision is going to replace the Voom stations with other HD content, but fans of Voom are going to miss the steady supply of HD. — Leslie Shapiro
