Leave it to our friends over at DVICE to dig up the dirt on this.  The story's a bit old, but nonetheless, still fascinating.

While most people just head to their local hifi shop when they need a new subwoofer, an audio designer dug around for the most kick-ass subwoofer he could design. Literally.

He dug two channels, three feet deep and 31 feet long to act as horns driven by a total of sixteen 18-inch woofer, powered by thousands of watts of power. Billed as the "biggest horn sub in the world," this can create a bass note below 10 Hz, but it's hard to imagine how that note would feel.

The designer, Roberto Dell Curti built this under his own home theater in Italy. I'm glad I'm not his neighbor. Keep reading to check out more photos.

My favorite? The springs needed to isolate the turntable. This is truly a massive project. Crazy, but impressive.
