Zenith R56W36 HD Monitor HT Labs Measures

HT Labs Measures: Zenith R56W36 HD Monitor

The top chart shows the R56W36's gray scale relative to its color temperature at various levels of intensity, or brightness (20 IRE is dark gray; 100 IRE is bright white). The gray scale as set by the factory, in the warm color-temperature mode, measures quite accurate with dark images and drifts red with brighter images. After making adjustments using the Photo Research PR-650, the gray scale measures better, within 170 kelvin of D6500, the accurate color temperature, across the entire range. This is an improvement compared with the performance before calibration. The bottom chart shows the gray scale (or color temperature) relative to the color points of the display's red, green, and blue CRTs. Green (x=0.304, y=0.607), red (x=0.660, y=0.337), and blue (x=0.144, y=0.065) are close to those specified by SMPTE, which means that the display will portray all of the colors available in the system. Red and blue are slightly oversaturated. The light output was approximately 39 foot-lamberts. The display has good DC restoration and an accurate color decoder. The R56W36 displays approximately 450 lines (per picture height) with NTSC sources and, using our Leader LT 446 HD generator, is capable of resolving 720p signals out to 620 (pph) and 1080i signals out to 810 (pph).—GM
