Disney has been pulling out all the stops with their classic animation titles and this one may have raised the bar even further. Never have I seen this gem look this good. Each frame is a beautiful canvas filled with rich color, detail and dimension. I was expecting this one to look good, but never thought it would be as incredible as this. The audio is also impressive with a full 7.1 remastered for home theater mix that really makes the most of the lossless Blu-ray capabilities. The songs sound rich in detail and the action features thunderous dynamics and plenty of surround goodness. This movie has never sounded or looked near this good!
Disney is releasing this one in several forms and for this review I received the DVD edition that also features the Blu-ray release. The Blu-ray release features the DVD version and a digital copy. You get a special edition that is teeming with features including new songs, deleted sequences, behind the scenes footage of the production and lots for the kids. You also get a fun sing along mode, a feature commentary and more.
One of Disney’s crown jewels, Beauty and the Beast makes for a breathtaking Blu-ray release. You won’t find a more beautifully hand drawn animated film on the format and the extras make this a no brainer for the collector’s shelf.
