Industry Girds for CES 2010

This week the consumer electronics industry will converge in Las Vegas for the annual International Consumer Electronics Show. That includes us--check out our blog!

More than 2500 exhibitors, including 330 new ones, will exhibit 20,000 products at the mammoth trade show. Emerging trends and markets will be highlighted in TechZones including eBooks, Experience 3D, Mobile DTV, Netbooks, and others. CE Spotlights will include the iLounge Pavilion, Living in Digital Times, EHX@CES, and Sustainable Planet. Keynote addresses will be given by Microsoft, Ford, and Intel bigwigs, among others.

Unmentioned in the official press release is any estimate for attendance. 2008, the high water mark, brought 147,000. But in 2009, the expected 131,000 total was eventually revised downward to 110,000. Will CES even break 100,000 this year?

Regardless, it will still be a huge event. In our a/v subject area, we expect to learn more about 3D, pico projectors, next-generation video displays, energy efficient displays, and the further penetration of existing technologies such as LED-backlit LCD displays. We also expect to see new wrinkles in surround decoding, networked audio, HDMI 1.4 audio features, and anything that connects to an iPhone/iPod.
