Sling That Dish
Dish Network subscribers: How would you like to enjoy your home satellite feed anywhere in the world as long as you have a broadband connection? You can do that now that the Dish Network has introduced the ViP922 SlingLoaded HD DVR receiver.
The box integrates the technology that has made the SlingPlayer a popular accessory for world travelers who still want to catch their local news or the latest episode of Mad Men. It has dual tuners, outputs to one TV, and records onto a 1TB hard drive. Tile menus make it easy to find programming. And you can use the box to access media from a router-connected PC (excluding streaming video). It will also work with some mobile devices.
The ViP922 became available on April 7, 2010 at a list price of $649 or a leased cost of $200-400. There is a DVR service fee of $10/month (or four bucks more than the standard $6).
