LG Philips Bows 52" LCD TV
LCD TVs are not only becoming trendy – they are also getting huge. In late December, the LG.Philips LCD company announced what it believes to be the world's largest LCD TV, a widescreen 52" -diagonal HDTV display with image generated by more than two million pixels.
A sample of the thin-film-transistor liquid crystal display (TFT-LCD) offered resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels, an ultra-wide viewing angle of 176 degrees with minimal color shift, and a theater-like 16:9 aspect ratio.
The prototype was demonstrated for the press in Seoul, home for the four-year-old joint venture between Korean industrial giant LG Electronics (parent company of Zenith) and Netherlands-based Royal Philips Electronics. LG.Philips makes a wide range of LCD displays for communication and entertainment applications, from 13" to 42".
Production of the big video displays is slated to begin in late 2003.
