Will Warner Dump HD DVD?
Here's what Dan Silverberg, Warner's VP for high-definition media, had to say at a recent Blu-ray promo event in Hollywood: "One thing that may be changing is our strategy. When both formats launched and hardware prices were high, we made a decision to support both formats and let the consumer decide. But now that hardware pricing is affordable for both Blu-ray and HD DVD, it appears consumers no longer want to decide--so the notion of staying in two formats for the duration is something we are re-evaluating now that we are in the fourth quarter."
If Warner discontinues one of the two formats, which would get the ax? Well, the fact that he was speaking at a Blu-ray event was indicative, but just in case you were wondering: "We can definitely talk Blu-ray. We are committed to the format." Warner's 300 is BD's all-time top seller. The studio has been number one or two in BD software market share and number of titles offered.
