Sharp XV-Z9000U DLP Projector HT Labs Measures
The top chart shows the gray scale of the Sharp DLP projector relative to its color temperature at various levels of intensity, or brightness (20 IRE is dark gray; 95 IRE is bright white). The gray scale, as set by the factory in the Bright mode, measures flat, within 150 degrees Kelvin across the entire range. The bottom chart shows the gray scale (or color temperature) relative to the color points of the display's red, green, and blue filter wheel. The gray scale falls slightly off of the black body curve and leans toward green. The color points fall reasonably close to those specified by SMPTE, which means the display will produce most of the colors available in the system. Green is slightly yellow, and blue is a shade purple. The light output was approximately 6.22 foot-lamberts on an 87-inch Stewart GrayHawk screen, which should equate to about 11.7 ft-L on our reference 72-inch-wide Studiotek 130. The projector displays at least 450 apparent horizontal lines of resolution, per picture height, with NTSC sources.—MW
