Ratings: ViewSonic Cine5000 DLP Projector
Build Quality: 89
• Chassis and remote feel sturdy and well built
• Rounded edges and two-toned cabinet help the appearance, but I've seen more attractive projectors
Value: 85
• On paper, this one is competitively priced with other 720p single-chip DLP models, but it falls short in features and connections
Features: 80
• No lens shift and limited zoom
• Few picture adjustments and no automatic aspect-ratio detection
• HDMI and VGA, but only one component video input
Performance: 86
• Good color and detail
• Average black level but good light output
• Low-level noise and other issues with 480i through component input
Ergonomics: 79
• Remote has dedicated inputs but no backlighting
• Menu is frustrating to navigate
• Projector is noisy and difficult to set up
Overall Rating: 85
As ViewSonic's first high-def home theater projector, the Cine5000 has potential, thanks to its solid video performance. Ultimately, though, it's hindered by ergonomic complications and a limited features list.
